I’m Fifty and Fabulous!

and I am

It is hard to believe that I am actually 50! I guess everyone thinks the same thing when they turn 50. It’s funny but turning 40 bothered me much more than turning 50 and turning 30 didn’t phase me a bit. They also say that 50 is now the new 40, whatever that means!

Anyway, I have had a great birthday. I took the week off and have devoted all of my time to doing just what I wanted which was nothing more than relaxing, watching TV and knitting! I have had many birthday wishes sent my way and and they have all made me feel special.

The video clip below shows some of the gifts that I have received from friends and family.

My daughter Jennifer sent me the Scor-Pal with the cutting mat insert to help me with my new love of scrapping. She also sent some beautiful Apollo engraved earrings from the Metropolitan Art Museum. My son Justin got me a new keyboard. The old one I had was also backlit, but I had rubbed off some of the keys as I type so much. This new one is great! It is nice because it is also backlit and I can change the color anytime I want.

My hubby took me out to dinner last night at the Golden Corral and it was so good. We got the buffet and boy did we both get stuffed! He even had 3 steaks! I had baked chicken, steamed brocolli and califlower, a salad, fried okra, swedish meatballs, mashed potato’s and gravy, green beans and fried chicken livers! Then I had banana pudding and a brownie for dessert. Now, mind you that sounds like a lot of food and it was, but it all fit on one plate. I had a little of everything and isn’t that what buffets and birthday dinners are meant to be? LOL After dinner we went to Walmart and he bought me the new Sex and the City movie and a new hugging pillow (which is so soft and squishy). He also took me to lunch at McAlister’s today and then to Hobby Lobby where I found a great plastic drawer cart to keep my scrapbook papers in and it was 50% off! That was my bd present to me! Patrick (my hubby) also gave me a cute little wooden chest with 50 $1 gold coins inside. He came and gave that to me as I was writing this post! He is so sweet!

My mom sent me a ceramic pumpkin candle, some pumpkin room spray and a plug in room freshener with 2 pumpkin refills. I love smell goods in the house! My sister Kim had also put her gift to me in the box and it was a gift card to Dunkin Donuts (my fav place for coffee) and a cute little thing of mints that say “The Big 5-0 on them, so those I’ll save. My sister Jan sent a bd card with money to get what I want + she sent a gorgeous Flower Birthday Cake to me today! The card read – “Everyone should get something special on their 50th birthday”. It is so pretty and it smells good too!

My friend Pam called me this morning and sang Happy Birthday to me and my sister-in-law also called to wish me Happy Birthday. My mother-in-law sent a bd card with money to get what I want too.

On Friday afternoon my friend Aura and I went to sit and knit at The Coffee Garden and she had a bag of goodies for me. A nice dishcloth that she had made, a Fiskars ribbon punch, a little tin of Sweetarts, some homemade soap for the face and a tin of homemade Patchouli Dream balm which smells awesome and has coconut oil, beeswax, patchouli and sweet orange oils. It is so soothing! (not in video as it was on my pc desk because I am constantly using it). She had given me several gift tags that she had made and 2 nice greeting cards that she had made + the bd card to me she had made. She also bought my coffee too! It was the best way to spend my last day of youth with my sweet friend Aura!

So, all in all I was very blessed on this special birthday and my family and friends made it all the better!

The Lady and the Felted Bag and 30 years!

The Lady is my Lady Eleanor WIP and the bag is my Stained Glass Fan Bag WIP.

First the Lady … she is one of my long time WIP’s and my goal this year was to finish all of my WIP’s! I am well on my way and now have over half of the Lady finished, and I had forgotten how much fun entrelac is. It also helps to know how to knit backwards so you don’t have to constantly turn your work. It is a great technique to avoid purling on all of your wrong side rows, which is great for entrelac as usually you only have 8 or less stitches. The KnitWitch has a great video on this technique here. You can find the Lady E pattern in the book Scarf Style.

I’ve also finished and felted my Stained Glass Fan Bag and lined it as well. I now just have to find the perfect handles for it. The hardest part of any handbag is finding the perfect handles.

I also found the time to finish a quick potholder called Origami Hot Pad. This was really super fast and I started and finished it this past Sunday afternoon.

Natural Stripes Origami Hot Pad

On Tuesday, April 8th my husband and I had our 30 year anniversary. We spent the day together and had a really enjoyable day. He took me to Borders to buy knitting and crochet magazine’s and I of course I had to have a cold cappuccino at the coffee shop in Borders. We had lunch at Max and Erma’s and he also took me back to the church where we were married. We only drove around the church as it is also a private Christian school so we didn’t go in. The cemetery where my dad is buried is also behind the church, so it was nice to go to my dad’s grave as I hadn’t seen the grave marker since it had been placed.

My husband also took the whole week off, so we went out to eat much more than we normally would. Our daughter had sent us a gift certificate for Outback Steakhouse, so we went there on Thursday and then we went for lunch on Friday to Boston Market.

I get up on Wednesday morning to a surprise that my husband had put in our living room. He had bought a grandfather clock for our 30 year anniversary and although it is huge, I know it will be an heirloom to pass down for generations. He got a great deal on it at Sofa Express who is going out of business and he said he just couldn’t pass it up. I am getting used to it now and love the sounds it makes every 15 minutes.

Ok, that’s enough for now. .. I have a test knit cardigan that is on my needles now for LilyGo. I am giving it to my mom for Mother’s Day so I can’t blog about it until it’s done, as I want the color and pattern to be a surprise. So, look for that post later.

Christmas came and went!

Christmas seems to linger for weeks in anticipation of it’s arrival and all the joy it brings, then suddenly it’s over! I think having our daughter here for the week made it pass by so quickly too. We have really enjoyed having her here and I can’t believe she leaves tomorrow. 😦

Our 3 little poodles have been attached to her since she arrived… 🙂
here they are keeping her warm and of course giving her tons of kisses.

We all were richly blessed with many gifts and me, Patrick and the kids made a total mess of the living room opening gifts and throwing wrapping paper and bows everywhere. My hubbie gave me this pretty pair of diamond earrings and many more gifts. Too much to list as he really spoils me every Christmas, no matter how much I tell him not too. Justin really spent too much too. He gave me 10 new towels, a vinegar and oil dispenser and these nice metal measuring cups. Jennifer really surprised me with the entire set of Knit Pick’s Harmony Knitting Needles along with some body wash from Bath and Body.

Patrick and Justin enjoyed all their gifts and Jennifer had much to open as well and
here she is Christmas Eve wearing the wrap I made for her.

She was elated with it and has wore it to keep warm while here. Once back home in St. Petersburg, Florida she will most likely only need it in the office where she stays chilly most of the time, so I know it will get some good use. They also have some chilly nights, so she may get to wear it out some evenings as well.

My mom also loved her wrap. It was going to be a mobius one and I finally decided (after seeing it on my friend Diane) that it may not be large enough, so I took the seaming out and added to both ends and made it into a wrap.

We also gave moma a digital frame which she just loved!

We had my husband’s brother Mike and his wife Cathy over on Christmas Eve along with their daughter Christa and their son Winston and his new wife Jessica. Patrick’s mom and sister also came. Cathy brought us a beautiful Christmas Plate Set, which included this one and another Santa one, which I forgot to take a photo of… but here they both are the next day at my sister’s Jan’s home. We had a great time together eating and sharing conversation and we also had a blast playing a game of Catch Phrase!

Then after they left and around midnight on Christmas Eve we had our exchanging of gifts with just us and our children, Jennifer and Justin.

Then on Christmas morning we headed to my sister’s Jan’s home for Christmas dinner and exchanging gifts with my family. When we first arrived our niece Alexis had just drove in showing off her new red bug she got for Christmas. Jan had set a beautiful table for us to eat together and she had little marshmallow candies at each place setting. We had a great meal and great conversation and then headed home after a full day of family fun.

Overall it has been a hectic and also relaxing Christmas spent with our families.
Patrick, myself, Jennifer and Justin are going to have supper tomorrow at Olive Garden before taking Jennifer to the airport. That is always the hardest part of all, when I have to kiss her goodbye. It has been such fun having her here this week, shopping with her, seeing her in her pj’s, having breakfast with her, seeing her sleeping in our home again, watching her open her gifts, teaching her how to purl… finally… and most of all just being with her sitting around talking and watching movies.

I hope that your Christmas with your family was as enjoyable as mine was!

Happy 4th of July!

appy 4th of uly

We made it safely back home and had a wonderful visit with our daughter, Jennifer in

St. Petersburg, Florida this past week.

I stayed busy on the way down with my knitting and crochet. I finished Brea except I have to purchase the handle and sew the lining. I will post pictures of it when I am done. I have to get my serger fixed first as I sewed over a pin and now it won’t sew. Ugh!

Blue Purse Cover

This is the crocheted blue purse cover that I made on the drive to Florida. The small pouch I finished on the way home with my leftover yarn from the blue and black purse cover. Tapestry Crochet Pouch I was going to knit on my Something Red sweater and realized that I had forgot to take the size 7 Knit Picks Option needles I needed to work on it, so thus the little tapestry crocheted pouch.

The Little Pleated Skirt that I had knitted for Jennifer fit perfectly and she loved it. I did have to crochet a little edge at the top to run a small crocheted cord through so that it wouldn’t fall off. It was the perfect solution!

Since it fit her so well and she really liked it, I am going to knit her a green one. Sean and Jennifer Sean, Jennifer and Patrick Here she is wearing it out to dinner last Friday evening for her birthday. The guy with her is her boyfriend Sean. Sean and Jennifer 2
